Winter Woods, Waters, and Windows: The New Era of Global Cooling
-- Midwest Winter Photos from 2008-2009 by Jeff Lindsay --
Say what you will about global warming, but the cold, snowy winter of 2008-2009 sends chills up my spine. Here are some shots of our Midwest woods, waters, and windows (that's right - hoar frost on the inside of my window). Be sure to see my main photo portal for more favorite pics.
During sunset, looking at the sun through a window of ours coated with hoar frost. Appleton, Jan. 2009. This is just a portion - the whole window was amazing. This kind of hoar frost only forms on our windows when it's very cold - an early warning sign of the doom of global cooling that make soon destroy the earth, at least until spring.
Trees reflected in the icey, eerie waters of the Des Plaines River.
Ice on a north-facing window of our home, Jan. 2009.
Ice skirts on trees in the Des Plaines River, near O'Hare International Airport, Jan. 3, 2009. These form when ice forms on the surface of the river at one level, then forms again when the river drops substantially. Ice skirts! I love it.
Ice feeding frenzy! A fallen tree succumbs to hungry ice in the Des Plaines River, near O'Hare International Airport, Jan. 3, 2009.
More ice and trees in the Des Plaines River, northern Illinois, Jan. 3, 2009.
Another view of the sun through my ice-coated window, Jan. 2009.
Ice in Lake Michigan as viewed from an airplane approaching Milwaukee. Jan. 16, 2009.
More hoar frost at sunset. Jan. 2009.

Hoar frost at sunset, take 3!
